This time, last year, I sat on my dinner table miserable because I had no idea which direction my life was heading in.

I could not seem to understand what was expected of me in my final year at University, and I had no idea what my plans were for after. I felt this way because: when I transferred from Malaysia to Cardiff, I found out that my final year was going to be 100% of my degree; and I really wanted to do the English bar, but I did not know how I would be able to. I cannot begin to express how much pressure I felt.

Little did I know, 2017 would be the most rewarding year of my life to date.

Somehow, I ended up graduating with a First, and getting the Inner Temple scholarship which helped me pursue my dream of becoming a Barrister.

As I reflect back on 2017, I realise that perseverence and hardwork will always pay off. As I reflect back on 2017, I realise that it’s so important to surround yourself with people who genuinely want what is best for you.  As I reflect back on 2017, I realise that it is impossible to control a situation, but it is possible to embrace the uncertainty and trust that things will fall into place – when the timing is right for you.

Today, as I continue to feel uncertain about what the future holds, I carry forward the reflections of 2017 and go into 2018 with nothing but hope.

Hope for a better future. Hope that things will fall into place. And hope that everyone that has been on this journey with me has a wonderful new year ahead.

Happy 2018!

Lots of love,
