… that in the UK you don’t need to have an undergraduate degree in law to become a Barrister?!?! 😱
You could have a degree in science, history, economics or anything else! Once you finish your degree, all you have to do is undertake a 1 year course called the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and then you too can apply for the BPTC or the LPC (if you want to become a solicitor).
How does this help? Well, especially in areas like Intellectual Property where matters are extremely technical and scientific – you could be dealing with the cells present in cows or something, most Barristers sets actually prefer having someone who has a science background as they believe they would understand such cases more!
So for those doing undergrad degrees in other subjects, and interested in a career in law, it’s not too late!
